ADO Den Haag seemed not to participate for 80 minutes and did not want to win. But due to a late equalizer (1-1) against Excelsior, which was better, it still has every chance to play in the Eredivisie next season. The return in the final of the play-offs for Eredivisie football will take place on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Excelsior already smelled the Eredivisie, because ADO had very little to contribute on the Rotterdam artificial grass by far for most of the game. Only in the last fifteen minutes – the Hague quarter – and after loud requests from the ADO fans to show more bluff, the visitors insisted.
The Hague striker in form, Thomas Verheydt, headed a long ball in the final minutes to Sem Steijn (son of Sparta trainer Maurice Steijn), who then subtly spooned the ball over Excelsior goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel.
The draw felt like a win for ADO, and a loss for Excelsior, because Excelsior played better and took the lead just after the break through Marouan Azarkan.
