Amazon reaches agreement on million-dollar acquisition of podcast maker Wondery | NOW

Amazon is to acquire American podcast publisher Wondery. The music streaming service of the American internet giant reached an agreement on the acquisition on Wednesday.

No amounts are mentioned in Amazon’s announcement. According to the Wall Street Journal The deal is worth 300 million dollars (more than 244 million euros).

Wondery was the last remaining independent podcast publisher in the United States. The company was founded in 2016 and has grown into one of the largest podcast makers in the country. Wondery, according to the Wall Street Journal this year we are heading for a turnover of 40 million dollars, about 32 million euros.

Amazon wants to increase the reach of its podcasts with the acquisition of Wondery. In September this year, the group added about 70,000 podcasts to the range of music streaming service Music.

The podcasts can be heard in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan. It is not known if and when the podcasts will also be available in the Netherlands.
