“Can you overtake on the right on the highway to pass a traffic jam?”

Car editor Niek Schenk answers: ‘You can overtake on the right to pass a traffic jam and that’s what you do in this case. A traffic jam does not necessarily have to be stationary. In short, as long as you don’t insert into the traffic jam immediately afterwards, you are really not antisocial and certainly not in violation. Also, pay attention to your driving speed. If there are traffic jams in the other lanes, the electronic matrix signs above the road may indicate a lower driving speed. The same speed is probably also indicated above your lane and you should not exceed this (temporary) speed limit. Moreover, this is very safe, because of the slower moving traffic in the immediate vicinity.’
