The chaos at Schalke 04 is complete. The finalist of the Bundesliga has fired trainer Christian Gross. In addition, technical director Jochen Schneider, assistant trainer Rainer Widmayer, team manager Sascha Riether and fitness and physical trainer Werner Leuthard must also leave immediately.
Gross’s position was already under pressure for the 5-1 loss of Schalke 04 at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday. The Swiss, only at the helm since the end of December, was no longer praised by a large part of the group of players.
For example, Gross’s tactical skills were questioned and he switched or even mispronounced player names. He mentioned Can Bozdogan at a press conference Can Erdogan and Alessandro Schöpf was given Massimo as his first name.
Gross’s resignation means that Schalke is now looking for the fifth trainer this season. David Wagner, Manuel Baum and Huub Stevens (interim) were previously responsible. However, with only 9 points from 23 games, relegation from the Bundesliga seems inevitable.
In addition to Gross, Schalke also said goodbye to Schneider, Widmayer, Riether and Leuthard. Schneider, who had been under fire from supporters for quite some time, would initially leave at the end of the season. The club from Gelsenkirchen, with Stevens as a member of the Supervisory Board, is therefore no longer waiting for that.
