The Dutch-Austrian Marita Kramer has won the first World Cup ski jumping competition of the season. In the Russian Nizhny Tagil Kramer jumped convincingly to the victory.
In the qualifying round, the 20-year-old crushed the competition by shattering the old ski jump record (99 metres). She jumped no less than 104.5 meters and in the final round only 75 meters was enough to win the first World Cup.
Kramer, who plays for Austria, jumped a decent 96 meters and thus presented her calling card for the rest of the World Cup season. The difference with the number two, the Slovenian Erna Klinek, was no less than 41.7 points.
The native of Apeldoorn moved to Austria with the whole family as a teenager and comes out under the Austrian flag, but the Netherlands has not completely rejected them. Normally Kramer always jumps with an orange helmet, but due to sponsorship obligations, this Friday was exchanged for a pink helmet.
