Emirates airline CEO Tim Clark expects the aviation recovery to begin soon. He said that during an online meeting on Wednesday. He thinks the corona crisis is a temporary crisis for aviation, but that his company will fully recover from it.
Clark said he doesn’t believe in the “new normal”. “I think demand will fully recover. This pandemic is temporary,” he said of the worst crisis in aviation history. “We’ve been through many crises in the past, maybe not as bad as this one, but we’ll get through it.”
So far, Emirates has been hit hard by the corona crisis. Thousands of jobs are said to have been lost at the airline. In June, sources reported that 8,500 jobs were being cut. In addition, this summer the company asked staff to take unpaid leave.
The blow is somewhat alleviated because Emirates still operates many cargo flights. These cargo flights to 70 to 80 destinations “cut the loss considerably,” said Clark.
