‘Helmond Sport refuses to play in Emmen on Friday after the request was rejected by the KNVB’

Helmond Sport refuses to take action against FC Emmen on Friday evening. That writes the Eindhovens Dagblad.

The club from the first division had made a request to the KNVB to postpone the match, partly due to corona cases within the selection. However, the KNVB rejected that request. Helmond Sport would only have ten available players (including goalkeeper).

If Helmond Sport does not appear at kick-off on Friday, the club may be waiting for a regulatory defeat and points deduction. The way to the disciplinary committee is now open.

According to the rules of the football association, clubs must have twelve field players plus one goalkeeper available in the selection in case of a corona outbreak. But in addition to many positive tests, Helmond Sport also struggles with many injuries.

According to the KNVB, there is no question of ‘a medically uncontrolled outbreak’, as was the case recently with Excelsior and Jong AZ, for example. The matches of those clubs were postponed.
