Lightning fast Jakobsen wins another stage in the Tour of Hungary and is the new leader

Fabio Jakobsen has also won the third stage in the Tour of Hungary. The QuickStep rider didn’t seem ideally positioned for the sprint after 154 kilometers, but passed everyone on the outside with an impressive acceleration.

Thanks to the stage win, Jakobsen takes over the leader’s jersey from the Belgian Jens Reynders. Just like the day before, Jakobsen Rudy Barbier and Sasha Weesmaes were too quick, they again crossed the line in second and third.

Chaotic sprint

The peloton encountered some hills in the first part of the stage from Sárospatak to Nyíregyháza, but the last 80 kilometers were almost flat. Five riders were well ahead on the wet and slippery course. They were caught 13 kilometers from the finish, after which Jakobsen turned out to be the strongest in a chaotic sprint.

After Olav Kooij (first stage) and Jakobsen (second stage), it was already the third Dutch success in Hungary. Kooij had to stop the Tour of Hungary after a serious crash in the final kilometers of the second stage.
