Rafael Nadal has reached the final battle of the grand slam tournament for the thirteenth time at Roland Garros at the expense of Diego Schwartzman. The Spaniard, who has won all his finals in Paris, triumphed in three sets: 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (0).
Nadal still had a bone to pick with Schwartzman, because the Argentinian was the boss in the quarterfinals on the clay court of Rome last month. For the global number fourteen, that was the first victory in ten duels with Nadal, the number two in the world.
The eleventh mutual duel started promising with a game of almost fifteen minutes. This set the tone for the party with long and sometimes spectacular rallies, in which Schwartzman fought for what he was worth, but Nadal was often the boss.
Level not sufficient
The Spaniard had to work hard for the points in the first two sets. Schwartzman sometimes hit nice winners, but he did not yet reach the level of his match in the quarter-finals in Paris, in which he beat Dominic Thiem in a beautiful five-setter.
