Number of jobs in our country reaches record level of 8.9 million | NOW

The number of permanent and flexible jobs in the Netherlands has reached a record. At the end of February, our country had 8.9 million employee jobs, an increase of 5 percent compared to the beginning of 2019, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

The increase in the number of jobs is greatest in health care and government. There are 2.6 million jobs in these two sectors, an increase of 9.5 percent.

“The corona crisis has of course played a major role in this, due to the arrival of test locations and the GGD that was looking for extra staff. But we are seeing an increase across the board, such as in temporary employment jobs. Moreover, very few companies have gone bankrupt.” , says CBS chief economist Peter Hein van Mulligen.

The number of people in work has now risen to 9.1 million, partly due to the increase in the working population. And that means that the labor market is currently very tight.

“The labor participation rate has never been so high, some people have two jobs. We see that many companies suffer from the shortage of personnel. And that will remain the case for a while, as the aging population continues,” said Van Mulligen. .
