Own wedding keeps Vitesse defender Dasa away from play-off duels with AZ

It’s news that you expect from an average amateur club, but not so quickly from the pros of Vitesse: defender Eli Dasa misses the most important games of the year because of his own wedding.

The Israeli right back will not be present on Thursday and Sunday in the double meeting with AZ, in which the Arnhem team can qualify for European football. Dasa is in his native Israel to get married.

“Dasa had long ago planned his wedding in Israel for this week, based on the likelihood that it would take place between any play-offs and the international matches of the Israel national team,” reports Vitesse.

“This is now extremely unfortunate, because relocation turned out to be not an option. That is not only very annoying for Vitesse, but also means that Dasa has already played its last game in yellow and black.”

The contract of the 29-year-old defender expires in Arnhem, so that he will not return after the summer. Dasa has been a permanent fixture at Vitesse for the past two and a half years.

Oroz in Austria for military service

Dasa is not the only defender who has to miss Vitesse against AZ for a remarkable reason. Dominik Oroz has been unavailable since early April.

Oroz has not adhered to the rules regarding conscription in Austria. The 21-year-old mandekker has been stuck in the country for weeks. Attempts by Vitesse to get him back were unsuccessful.

Trainer Thomas Letsch has to puzzle a lot these days, because Vitesse is missing more than a handful of players against AZ. Maximilian Wittek, Jacob Rasmussen and Yann Gboho are injured and Enrico Dueñas is on the road with the national team of El Salvador. Nikolai Baden Frederiksen is suspended for the first game. He received a red card in the injury time of the match against FC Utrecht that was won in extra time.

There is a question mark behind the names of Adrian Grbic, Matus Bero and Enzo Cornelisse. The trio are on their way back from injuries.

The winner of the duel between Vitesse and AZ qualifies for the second preliminary round of the Conference League.
