In the time trial in and around Bilbao, the riders were presented with a 2.6 kilometer climb and, after a 9 kilometer descent, ended with a short, steep climb of 600 meters with strips of up to 19 percent.
Duel Roglic against Pogacar
For the first time since the last Tour de France, Roglic and Pogacar met again in a stage race. The last time Roglic lost the yellow jersey to the unleashed Pogacar in the final time trial, who then took the Tour win.
The field of participants has more big names besides Roglic and Pogacar. With Giro winner Tao Geoghegan Hart, Marc Hirschi, Richard Carapaz, Mikel Landa, Alejandro Valverde and the Dutch Wilco Kelderman and Bauke Mollema, there is seriously a strong line-up.
The Tour has six stages, in which the riders will have to choose several tough climbs. The fourth stage is part of the route of Clásica San Sebastián. The toughest stage is the final stage, with seven short but steep climbs.
