Car editor Niek Schenk answers: ‘Daytime running lights are increasingly present in car design and these lamps are often at a different height than normal headlamps. It sometimes looks like these are the main headlights. However, the beam from the main headlights must still be adjusted to a certain minimum height. The standards are less strict for daytime running lights. These are not intended to give the driver a better view of the road in the dark, but mainly serve to indicate to other road users that a car is approaching. That’s why their height is less important.’
